About the role:

We’re on the hunt for a Casual News Assistant to join our 7 Tasmania News team based in Launceston.

The News Assistant is a perfect entry point for a graduate journalist, communications or media studies student. They perform functions across both editorial and operational facets of television news production. Supporting the 7 Tasmania News Producer, the News Assistant helps to source, prepare, ensure the accuracy of, and deliver network content, on-air graphics, and closed captioning content for live news broadcasts. They may also contribute to writing news updates. This role may also involve news administration support.

Experience we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated interest in news and current affairs
  • A team player with strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and meet strict deadlines under pressure
  • Experience in, or ability to quickly gain knowledge in news production and content management systems
  • Knowledge of video editing software is an advantage, as is a knowledge of social media tools and platforms, and photo and video editing apps
  • Knowledge of media law and best practice
