Investment Operations Manager

The incumbent will play a significant role in the management of the Investment Department’s operations, systems and compliance functions. In addition to providing overall operations leadership, the incumbent is expected to proactively to enhance the team’s technological efficiency and work closely with stakeholders in relation to operational due diligence and other key areas.

 

Operations

  • Oversee all aspects related to daily investment operations, including cash management, monitoring and reconciling daily cash flow, and month end valuations and portfolio rebalancing as necessary. Ensure smooth, efficient and accurate trading process.
  • Liaise with accounting and finance departments to ensure there are no settlement issues regarding bond, equity and fund transactions. Ensure that collateral cashflows are settled correctly and coordinate any disputes in valuations.
  • Perform due diligence on account opening for new counterparties.

 

Policy Review and Compliance

  • Review various policies at the department level, firm level, and group level to ensure that our department policies, measures and operational manuals are up to date and compliant with group policy.
  • Perform review on department policies and procedure manuals if necessary.
  • Produce reports for submission to our compliance department (e.g. related party transactions, QFII reports, operational risk incident report) in an accurate and timely manner.

 

Operational Due Diligence

  • Establish and oversee process for monitoring fee payments and verify external managers’ compliance with investment mandates and agreements.
  • Develop and oversee the document management process.
  • Work with portfolio managers on operational due diligence, focusing in particular on counterparty agreements and other back office functions internal to the manager (daily compliance reports etc).

 

Audit

  • Work systematically with internal auditors, external regulators and external audit firm.
  • Provide accurate and timely response on requested information.
  • Explain our department’s policy, operational protocol, control functions, business continuity plans etc and answer any queries.

 

Technology & Systems

  • Manage, maintain and review our trading and compliance systems and ensure that the system is accurately monitoring all the guidelines and limits as prescribed by investment policy.
  • Perform systems enhancement, UAT and work with vendors (e.g. Bloomberg) as necessary.

 

Portfolio and Risk Analytics

  • Produce and generate management reports regarding exposure, PnL and other ad-hoc management information requests. Work with portfolio managers to ensure that our risk exposure reports and performance data are accurate.
  • Alert portfolio managers if there are significant losses in certain positions.
  • Escalate and report to Investment Committee or ALCO as necessarily and ensure that any breaches are reported to various committees according to our investment guideline.

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting or other relevant disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience middle office or investment operations in financial services industry.
  • Deep product knowledge in fixed income, FX derivatives, equities, and alternative investments.
  • Familiarity with investment systems such as Bloomberg AIM
  • Familiarity with accounting and valuation policies
  • Understanding policies and guidelines.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal (Chinese and English).
