Schedule: Fall and Spring semesters. Start Spring 2026 for training opportunities. Includes days, nights, and weekends. Minimum commitment of at least 2 semesters, 4 hours per week, maximum of 10 hours per week. Positions are not guaranteed to be held for leaves of absence for semesters abroad. Summer and winter hours are not guaranteed.

About the Wellbeing Center at Warner Hall:

The Wellbeing Center at Warner Hall is an engagement center where students can come together for important programming that is themed around their wellbeing and health. The Wellbeing Center houses the Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD), Student Wellness and Health Promotion (SWHP), and the office of Strategic Wellbeing and Training. Warner Hall is located next to Laurel Hall, where Student Health Services (SHS) is located. Together, these units make up the Wellbeing Neighborhood, which supports holistic and lifelong student wellbeing.

Role Description:

Student Wellness and Health Promotion at the University of Delaware is seeking motivated, adaptable, and reliable undergraduate students for the role of Healthy Hen Peer Educator. Peer education plays a key role in the promotion of positive health behaviors, the prevention of chronic diseases, and the development and maintenance of resilience. The University of Delaware’s Healthy Hens provide opportunities for students to be their authentic selves, learn about common concerns for college students and how to manage day-to-day stressors, and develop skills that support the many dimensions of wellbeing, including healthy movement, nutrition, sleep, stress management, sexuality, mental health, social health, and advocating for one’s wellbeing. The Healthy Hens will work closely with professional staff from Student Wellness and Health Promotion as well as partner offices like Student Health Services and the Center for Counseling and Student Development to ensure students are connected to a more appropriate level of care when needed. This role is not designed to replace professional mental, behavioral, or physical health care, but in working closely with professional staff from all wellbeing units, Healthy Hens help to ensure students are connected to the appropriate sources of care when needed. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Being a Healthy Hen includes participating in and facilitating a wide range of activities, such as:

  • Attending weekly trainings to gain the appropriate contextual knowledge to perform responsibly in the role 

    • Applicants must be able to attend orientation training August 7-9, 2026, on the Newark campus.

    • Attendance at weekly staff meetings during the semester is highly prioritized. These occur on Tuesdays, 4-6 pm, on the Newark campus.

  • Providing education on a variety of physical, social, mental, and behavioral health-related topics in a multitude of settings, including the Student Centers, Carpenter Sports Building, and Warner Hall

  • Advocating for healthy choices, harm reduction, mental health, and access to wellbeing resources 

  • Assisting with large-scale health initiatives across campus, including harm reduction efforts around high-risk periods like Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day

  • Building community and relationships to enhance community connection

  • Providing event support for partner offices and organizations

  • Creating and posting wellbeing-related social media content

  • Providing appropriate referrals to trained staff

  • Designing and facilitating educational presentations to peers and UD organizations in classroom settings

  • Developing resources and facilitator guides for educational programming

  • Providing peer-to-peer support for a variety of events around campus

  • Contributing to the growth of the program by providing regular feedback and assessment of events

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Committed to creating a campus culture that supports holistic wellbeing

  • Passion for health and wellbeing advocacy 

  • Time management skills

  • Strong communication, public speaking, and leadership skills

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

  • Experience or interest in leadership responsibilities

  • Punctuality, reliability, and dependability

  • Proficiency with Google products (docs, slides, etc.) 

  • Graphic design skills, Canva experience, and knowledge of Instagram a major plus

  • General knowledge of multiple areas of the University community a plus

  • Knowledge of wellbeing resources of the University a plus

  • Interest in working in a fun, exciting, and rewarding environment

  • HBS, HDFS, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Therapy, and other allied-health majors are strongly encouraged to apply

Requirements:  

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends

  • Must be able to attend regular staff meetings and trainings

  • Must be able to commit between 4-10 hours per week

  • At least 2 semester commitment required

  • A minimum overall GPA of 2.5
