Department Overview:

The Renz Lab and Kohmann Lab in the UW–Madison Agronomy Department are searching for one individual to work part-time to full-time (10- 40 hours per week) from approximately late April, with increasing hours to full-time (30 – 40 hours per week) starting in mid-May through the end of August. Continued employment for approximately 10 - 30 hours per week from September-December 2024 may be an option.

Schedule:

The Research Intern will work as part of a research team. Daily schedules vary depending on tasks that need to be completed and location of field sites, and the schedule will be agreed upon ahead of time by the Research Intern, supervisor and other team members. Applicants can expect to work Monday - Friday, 8-10 hours per day, within the range of 7:30 am - 5:30 pm, for no more than 40 hours per week.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$14.00 - $18.00

Qualifications:

• Duties may take place in adverse outdoor conditions and will mostly occur outside Madison.
• Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, and meet the requirements to become a UW Authorized Driver

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Prior field and data collection experience would be helpful but is not required.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Primary Duties (70%): Assist in Conducting Research Trials:
• Support field experiments
o Travel to field sites independently or with the team
o Assist with plot setup, treatment application, and data collection
o Use quadrats, transects, cameras, biomass harvests, and visual estimations of cover to assess treatment effects
• Lab analysis
• Accurately enter data with Excel

Secondary duties (30%): Assist with other projects within the Renz Lab and Kohmann Lab:
• Assist with a variety of efforts, which may include:
o Create outreach factsheets
o Assist with outreach events for stakeholders and the public
o Process biomass and soil samples

Physical Demands:

Must be able to work outside for prolonged periods.
