This project will collect novel data on financial advice-seeking from social media among adults ages 18-44 to examine how financial influencers “influence” Millennials’ and Gen Zers’ financial literacy and well-being and if prior financial education receipt in school (whether high school or college) or state-specific consumer protection policies moderate these effects. Our findings will have implications for consumer policies, especially as they concern youth financial education; advertising, credential, and information disclosures; fraud prevention; and social media content moderation.
