Department Overview:

The Office of Student Financial Aid helps make college more affordable through federal, state, and institutional funding. We aim to provide a smooth enrollment experience that supports student recruitment, retention, and on-time graduation. The Front Desk team plays a key role in guiding students and families through financial aid questions and connecting them to the right support.

Schedule:

Office is open 9-4pm Monday-Friday. Must be able to work at least one open shift (8:50am) and/or at least one closing shift (4:00pm) throughout the week. Schedule is determined each semester based on full team's availability.

Qualifications:

Current UW–Madison student in good academic standing
Federal Work Study required (check your 25–26 Financial Aid offer to confirm)
Ability to commit to 6-15 hours a week with one opening shift (8:50 am) or one closing shift (4:00 pm)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multitask and prioritize
Attention to detail (yes, even the missing attachment)
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills- a lot of sleuthing is required to answer financial aid questions
Team-oriented and comfortable asking for backup when needed
Patient and empathetic when working with a high volume of students or families who may be upset, stressed, or overwhelmed

Position Summary/Job Duties:

👋 You’ll be the hero at the front desk—answering phones, tackling emails, and helping drop-ins who are navigating the maze of grants, loans, scholarships, and more.

🗓️ Greet drop-ins and check in appointments with a welcoming approach

🔎 Catch details others might miss—because one digit off a campus ID matters

🚪 Assist with general office duties (opening, closing, and keeping things running smoothly)

🤝 Meet regularly with your supervisor and team leads so you’re always in the loop

🗣️ Attend team meetings and training sessions (yes, snacks may be involved!)
