Reporting to the Director of the Language and Culture Institute (LCI), the Associate Director for Finance and Administration is responsible for oversight of an array of fiscal, human resource, and administrative functions for all locations of LCI (currently Blacksburg and Northern Virginia). These functions include: financial management, departmental budgeting and accounting, accounts payables (AP) and accounts receivables (AR), contract and proposal development and administration, financial reporting and ad hoc financial analysis, as well as human resource activities. The Associate Director will ensure that all activities are completed in accordance with established university policies, procedures, and timeframes. S/he must work autonomously in this role and will provide leadership to the Institute in the Director's absence. The Associate Director supervises and directs a finance and administrative team located in multiple buildings and locations.
Master's degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting or related field or equivalent level of training and experience.| Supervisory experience.| Proven track record in management and financial responsibility.| Experience overseeing the financial activities and reporting of an organization. | Experience developing and monitoring contracts and budgets. | Experience in coordinating human resource functions for an organization.| Experience using spreadsheets, accounting systems, database management, word processing, and other office software. | A broad understanding of and appreciation for cultures and sensitivity to the cultural norms of a wide variety of countries. | Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and assign work as needed.| Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external parties.
Professional certification as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and/or or in human resources (PHR/SPHR; SHRMCP; SHRMSCP). | Working knowledge of state and university policies and procedures.| Previous human resources experience.| Professional level experience in governmental and/or fund accounting.| Demonstrated working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.| Experience overseeing AP and AR functions.| Experience with large financial and HR databases such as Banner. | Experience with Hokiemart or a similar procurement system.| Advanced use/working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.| Ability to build and maintain relationships across campus and across diverse constituencies.
Commensurate with experience up to a budget max of $80,000
