Job Description

A full-time research assistant (junior data analyst) is sought for the labs of Dr. Pearl Chiu and Dr. Brooks King-Casas at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion (http://research.vtc.vt.edu). Projects in the labs combine methods from experimental and clinical psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics with functional neuroimaging to investigate decision-making in healthy and clinical populations (current projects have a focus on borderline personality disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, substance-use disorders, at-risk youth, and traumatic brain injury). The research assistant will assist with data analyses involving behavioral, fMRI, clinical interview, and genetic data. The research assistant may also have additional duties such as fMRI scanning, participant evaluation, and data management. Training will be provided for all aspects of the position. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented person looking to be a critical part of a diverse and active scientific environment in preparation for graduate school in cognitive or clinical psychology, neuroscience, or related fields. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to make a one-year commitment.

Required Qualifications

1) Relevant research experience; 2) Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail; 3) Excellent written and oral communication skills; 4) Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent; 5) Knowledge and experience using a programming language (python, MATLAB, R, etc.) and working in command line environments.

Preferred Qualifications

1) BA/BS in psychology, neuroscience, biology, statistics, mathematics, economics, or related field

2) Candidates with previous experience with signal processing or model-based data analyses will be considered favorably.
