Job Description

The Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to help develop a research platform supporting broadening participation for pre-college, undergraduate, graduate and faculty/staff communities. CEED, established in 1992, is charged with the recruitment and retention of groups underrepresented in engineering and has implemented programs recognized both nationally and internationally as effective in increasing the participation of women and people of color within the College of Engineering. This position will work closely with the CEED Leadership Team to seek research opportunities that will support both program development and sustainability, while simultaneously building CEED’s reputation as an academic research center.

Required Qualifications

•Doctorate in Engineering Education, Engineering, Higher Education, or a related field. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
•Experience publishing in engineering education or education journals
•Experience presenting at engineering education or education conferences

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience using qualitative and quantitative research methods
•Project management experience
•Prior experience conducting research on broadening participation in engineering and/or research focused on low-income and/or minoritized student populations
•Prior experience mentoring teams or individuals

Since 1992, the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) has provided encouragement and support to engineering students, focusing on underserved and under-represented populations. Our precollege programs reach over 2000 students annually and are a significant recruiting effort reaching underserved and underrepresented students.
