Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Construction Standards Official, this position serves as the supervisor for the Building, Utility Infrastructure, Library Data and Surveying services (BUILDS) team. The BUILDS team is responsible for mapping and archiving all plans associated with University buildings, utility infrastructure systems (GIS shapefiles), survey As-Builts, construction drawings, operational manuals, construction specifications, and submittal documents. The BUILDS team is the steward of University archived construction plan data via the Division’s Electronic Document Management System (EDMS). The group is made up of four teams; CAD Drafting analysists, ArcGIS Geospatial technicians, licensed survey and plans library EDMS administration. The BUILDS Supervisor manages the day-to-day function of the team, oversees QA/QC of deliverables, organizes work process flows and updates project priorities to align with data request from internal and external clients. This position is responsible for the team's efforts to provide space-related drawings and data, research space information, and collaborate to ensure all campus space-related data is consistent. This position functions with minimal supervision and oversight.

Required Qualifications

o Bachelor’s degree in engineering, natural or physical sciences or related field or equivalent experience to equate to a Bachelor’s degree.
o Must have professional experience directly related with surveying principals, Geospatial principals, floorplan drawings and/or space inventory administration.
o Familiarity with space information data systems, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Revit, Forge, MicroSoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite and other technical graphics software.
o Must have a basic operational level of familiarity with relational database management systems.
o Must understand floorplans and construction documents.
o Must have good interpersonal/customer relations skills and be able to function in a medium-pressure environment under deadlines and as a member of a project team. Must be able to work well with others in a collegial environment.
o Experience working directly with clients; their senior management representatives, faculty, scientists, laboratory managers, technicians, facilities and project managers, and other project stakeholders in determining and documenting programmatic requirements.
o Must be able to produce analytical reports as needed to support management decision-making.
o Should have a working familiarity with GIS concepts and applications.
o Experience ranging from project management, design, and construction related to commercial, industrial and higher education.
o Working knowledge of construction means and methods related to site work, substructure, shell, interiors, services, equipment, furnishings, special construction as well as demolition.
o Must be able to learn new concepts and skills.
o Spatial aptitude is required. This position requires the ability to easily visualize and sketch a floor plan during a walk-through of a building.
o A basic understanding of building construction and architecture is required. This position is not an architectural designer position, but some of the same basic skills are needed to maintain accurate drawings of the buildings.
o This position requires attention to small details to maintain quality standards for the drawings and database.
o Basic understanding of relational databases.
o Knowledge of Microsoft Excel for manipulating data is required.

Preferred Qualifications

o Experience working on planning projects within a higher education institution.
o Knowledge of Library of Virginia Records Retention Policy and Facility Space Use surveys.
o Working familiarity with higher education project planning concepts and software applications.
o Familiar with the organizational structure of a typical educational institution.
o Working familiarity with campus master planning information support requirements.
o Experience with GIS systems is preferred.
o Basic computer programming experience or familiarity is desired.
o Basic design skills are also desired

Additional Information

Work is performed primarily in an office setting with considerable sitting and repetitive motion from keyboarding.
Some walking, standing, climbing steps, bending, and stooping may be required. Must have a criminal background check.
May need to work additional hours or modify the work schedule to meet the needs of the department.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
