Job Title: Graduate Assistant for the Office of Graduate Student Affairs

Responsibilities:

Program Planning and Advisement

  • Plan and implement at least two programs a month for graduate students.
  • Advise and ensure coverage at activities, programs and events sponsored through Graduate Student Affairs and other departments.
  • Provide support and guidance to graduate student leaders planning programs, community service projects, and off-campus trips.
  • Provide emergency intervention, crowd management, and appropriate use of facilities during events.
  • Interface with food service, public safety, facilities, residential life, purchasing, and other university departments to ensure appropriate communication to meet programmatic goals.

Student Resource

  • Plan, create, promote, implement, evaluate and advise programs that are social, educational, professional, and continues personal growth in students.
  • Possess a student-centered attitude and mindset.
  • Be knowledgeable of campus resources and refer students as appropriate.
  • Advise graduate student groups by participating in meetings and being a resource to them.

Administration

  • Assume role and responsibilities as a para-professional staff member of the Office of Graduate Student Affairs for the Dean.
  • Assist with graduate open houses, graduate orientation, and other events.
  • Meet with supervisor regularly.
  • Serve on departmental committees as assigned.
  • Participate in seminars, workshops and regional professional associations as encouraged.
  • Uphold University policies and procedures as outlined in the Graduate Student Handbook.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain 20 weekly office hours.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Enrolled as a graduate student at an accredited institution and in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

Programming experience, administrative skills, ability to work independently and make informed decisions on a case-by-case basis, and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Hours of Position:
  • Up to 20hrs per week
