Purpose of the Position:

The Early Childhood Special Educator will assist in the classrooms with direct and indirect special education support for teachers. Utilize Developmentally Appropriate Practices with Teaching Strategies Gold, and Conscious Discipline to support individual child and classroom needs. The position will coordinate scheduling to ensure teacher to student ratios are met by scheduling subs and Wraparound Program staff. This position will also work closely with the Executive Director and Assistant Director as the ELC works to obtain NAEYC accreditation.

Duties/Responsibilities
• The Program Coordinator/Early Childhood Special Educator will work closely with the ELC directors in the management of the Early Learning Center’s Wraparound childcare program that cares for students outside of the school day until timed pickup by families, supervise and maintain student physical and emotional safety.
• Manage and coordinate the day to day work flow and activities of the Wraparounds program weekly schedule Monday-Friday from 2:30-5:30 p.m., and Before School Care Program Monday-Friday 7:00 -7:45 AM.
• Work cooperatively with administrators and Wraparound staff to support and foster age-appropriate activities.
• Create, monitor and manage daily scheduling and staffing of the Wraparound program for the classrooms and monitor planned activities within the program.
• Work closely with and provide leadership support to the Wraparound teachers with planning and preparation for activities, ensuring they are developmentally appropriate, and assist with implementation of activities, if needed.
• Ensure that the Wraparound programs adhere to all safety and sanitation requirements set forth in the minimum standard rules for licensed child care centers, and that children are supervised appropriately at all times.
• Communicate and coordinate regularly with ELC administrative personnel regarding issues such as Wraparound program enrollment, children’s special needs and adaptations, parent concerns etc.
• Assist with development and implementation of IFSPs and IEPs, and support the transition of children to subsequent educational environments.
• Provide direct and indirect instruction to students with disabilities in both individual and small group settings using evidence-based instructional strategies and multisensory approaches to enhance learning and engagement.
• Collaborate with parents, teaching staff, and therapists to problem solve solutions for behavioral, developmental, and educational issues that arise and to develop positive learning experiences for all enrolled children.
• Stays abreast of new developments in the field so as to contribute new philosophies and practices related to current trends in early intervention and early childhood education.
• Establish clear expectations and guidelines for appropriate behavior, modeling ideal behaviors for students.
• Maintain professional and positive relationships with school staff, partners, participants, and parents.
• Manage attendance logs, prepare and generate reports, documentation and record – keeping responsibilities in compliance with ELC and University policies, guidelines and procedures.
• Ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling for substitute teachers and support staff for both the Wraparound programs and primary daytime programs to maintain proper student: adult ratios in each class.
• Supervise, guide and direct Wraparound personnel, to include coaching, and monitoring of performance.
• Create, develop and implement necessary processes for managing Wraparound activities, staff, and security. This may include, but is not limited to: lesson plans, sign in/out forms, incident reports, sub requests, maintenance requests, employee onboarding and training, etc.
• Responsibility for daily center activities that might be temporary in the event other personnel are not available, including coverage for Teachers and support staff in the classrooms.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, and training as needed. • Assist and participate with special projects, events and activities as assigned.
• Non-administrative daily duties may include covering absences, diaper changing, sterilizing toys and equipment, preparing children's snacks, vacuuming, laundry, etc.
• Perform routine duties and responsibilities on time, and take initiative in recognizing and doing what needs to be done.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Special Education
• Certification in Early Childhood Special Education or Special Education
• 1-3 years of full-time verifiable experience working with young children in a classroom setting • Knowledge of positive approaches to discipline and NAEYC Standards

Desired Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Special Education
• Certification in Early Childhood Special Education or Special Education
• 4+ years of full-time verifiable experience working with young children with disabilities in a classroom setting. Teaching Strategies Gold experience
• Knowledge of Conscious Discipline, Knowledge of Pyrimad Model Supports, and NAEYC Standards, Infant/Child CPR, Current Physical, Valid TB Test

$47,000 - $50,000
