Purpose of the Position:

Under the general direction of the Director of Engagement Programs, the Coordinator for Engagement Programs is responsible for applying knowledge, skills, and abilities to develop, coordinate, and execute programs, projects, events, and activities toward the full and holistic engagement of students at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. This includes supporting the development, design and implementation of strategic initiatives, the support and in some cases oversight and facilitation of programs that meaningfully engage students in all the university has to offer and supporting them with academic, personal, and social success here at UAH and beyond. This is a highly collaborative position that will work with a broad range of internal and external constituents to maintain high quality, excellence, and consistency in engagement programming. The incumbent will play a key role in supporting the incorporation of best practices into the work of the Office of Access, Connections, and Engagement.

Duties/Responsibilities

Program Development and Support
• Provide support in the design, implementation, and maintenance of engagement programming for pre-collegiate, prospective, and enrolled students.
• Works to support the Office of Access, Connections, and Engagement in all student-facing activities, and professional development opportunities, post-graduation planning, professional opportunities, mentoring, student engagement, and student events.
• Assist with various administrative functions and processes related to administering Office of Access, Connections, and Engagement initiatives.
• Support the development and identification of learning outcomes, and assessment of programs, events, and activities.
• Works with the Director to launch pilot programs and develop strategies to roll out new concepts, programs, etc.
• Identify opportunities on campus to wrap around and deepen the engagement experience.
• Serve as a staff support and resource to students at meetings, events, and activities.
• Support the design and implementation of strategies and initiatives to engage students, support their growth and development, and readiness to lead in a global workforce.
• Assist in the identification of facilitators, volunteers, etc. for programs and activities.
• Create cross-promotional pathways for students to engage further with departments, high-impact learning opportunities, and engagement programs more deeply.
• Support the formulation and execution of the OACE Ambassadors including coordinating schedules and identification of Ambassadors for various events and activities.
• Work strategically and collaboratively, as part of the OACE Team, with various internal and external constituents.
• Participates in regularly scheduled meetings for OACE.
• Complete CPP training and serve as a care and custody professional for OACE programs and activities as needed.
• Support the director in training and managing the Ambassador Program.
• Gather input and incorporate feedback to continually improve student experiences and engagement.

Engagement, Educational Support and Advising
• Support the creation and implementation of a curriculum that addresses student’s engagement needs and focuses on topics such as: goal attainment, goal setting, time management, priorities, etc.
• Create student materials, packets and supplies for workshops, activities, as needed.
• Provide engagement advising and consultation to students and student organizations as needed and/or requested.
• Facilitate presentations for student organizations/groups, classes, departments and colleges.


Outreach and Event Coordination
• Represent the Office of Access, Connections, and Engagement at on-campus recruitment events such as Charger Excellence Day, UAH at a Glance, New Student Orientation.
• Coordinate timely outreach efforts to increase program awareness and participation.
• Collaborate with OACE Team to plan and host student leaders from area high schools including Campus Visit/Choose UAH program, student conferences and etc.
• Assisting with the development and distribution of communication materials related to Office of Access, Connections, and Engagement initiatives.
• Support recruitment of students for Ambassadors, Bridge Programs and etcetera.
• Collect, synthesize, and share student engagement and attendance data with OACE staff and partners as needed and/or requested.
• Support the planning and event logistics including set-up, execution, attendance tracking, and take down for OACE events and activities.
• Develop marketing and promotional materials for events, activities, etc. and creation of promotional partnerships with student clubs and campus partners.

Relationship Development and Management
• Developing and building relationships with various educational institutions, , organizations, internal and external constituents, co-workers, faculty, staff, students, parents, families and the campus community.
• Developing and maintaining positive relationships with students to foster a sense of belonging and support within the university community.
• Maintain knowledge of campus resources in order to appropriately connect students with the correct campus entities.
• Liaise with various offices and departments throughout the campus landscape.

Other duties as assigned
• Assist and provide support with special projects as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director for Engagement Programs or VP for Access, Connections, and Engagement.

Minimum Requirements:

● Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience
● 3-5 years of full-time work experience in a higher education setting (which should include verifiable experience and knowledge of contemporary best practices).
● Previous experience coordinating engagement programs, support services, First Year Experience, etc.
● Must have experience with event planning
● Must have strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
● Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite
● Must have strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Desired Qualifications:

● Master's degree is preferred
● 2 years of experience in higher education setting
● 2 years of verifiable experience and knowledge of contemporary engagement best practices
● Direct experience coordinating engagement programs
● Experience working with community organizations

Published Salary (if available):

$40,000 - $42,000
