They will need to be energetic to work with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental and emotional health through outreach events and campus-planned events. The incumbent will provide services to a very diverse population to counsel, support, and consult in regard to psychological, social, and emotional well-being, along with enhancing the student’s personal growth, development, and adjustment to University life. The Counselor will be expected to help plan and conduct suicide prevention workshops, substance abuse workshops, and other identified group needs on campus. They will collaborate with staff from Student Health Services, the university, and community service agencies in developing, implementing, and evaluating educational and outreach activities, student needs, and campus concerns. They will need exceptional time management and are expected to participate in professional development activities and training. They will provide crisis intervention and assessments when necessary, including night and weekend on-call duties as required by all other licensed professional staff in the Counseling Center.Duties/Responsibilities• Conduct intakes/assessments• Develop treatment plans for students to gain full value of their goals and thecounseling process• Demonstrate sound knowledge of counseling theories and practices to assist student’s professional, academic, and personal growth• Conduct individual and group therapy, develops group plans to implement• Respond and assess crisis situations for students/incidents, Crisis debriefing as needed, Acts as client advocates to coordinate required services or to resolveemergency problems in crisis situations• Create, develop, and present workshops, programs, and events on various personal and academic skills topics.• Plan or conduct programs to prevent substance abuse or improve counseling services on campus.• Gather information about community mental health referrals or resources. that could be used in conjunction with the University Counseling Center• Collaborate with staff from Student Health Services, the university staff and faculty, and community service agencies in developing, implementing and evaluating educational and outreach activities on the prevention, recognition and treatment of psychological and behavioral problems, which may include anger management, substance abuse harm reduction, relationship skills development, suicide prevention, and any other emerging trends seen on campus within the student population.• Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments or develop treatment plans.• Refer clients or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.• Collaborate with student, university faculty, and community members in designing innovative programs to enhance student success.• Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.• Fill out and maintain client-related paperwork, including federal- and state-mandated forms, client diagnostic records, and progress notes.• Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports within the timeframes specified. • Learn about new developments in counseling by reading professional. literature, attending courses and seminars, or establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.• May support grant funding opportunities and preparations under the direction of either the Director or Assistant Director.• Initiate and respond to requests for information about general mental health topics or provide help with particular students (within the legal/ethical constraints of treatment and University policy).• Other duties as assigned by Director or Assistant Director, which can include supervision of a trainee for some areas of coordination. Minimum Requirements: • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work or Master's degree obtained within the next 3 months• 1 year of full-time verifiable work experience in the field of Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field• 2 semesters of verifiable internship experience in the field of Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field• Eligible for a License or Associate License in Counseling or similar field in the next 3 months• Experience and confident in providing culturally competent services to a very diverse population (i.e. gender identity, ethnic, and socioeconomic)• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills Desired Qualifications: • Associate Licensed in the respective field of practice is preferred• Additional certifications in specialized areas of practice (i.e. substance abuse, EMDR, trauma) is desired• Experience working with Banner and Titanium software is preferred• Diverse professional background working with clients in the GLBTQ community and crisis prevention is desired• Campus outreach experience is preferred• Experience working on a college campus is desired• Knowledge and experience in providing psychological assessments and testing services is strongly preferred Published Salary (if available): $24.04 (FTE=$50,000) Advertised: Sep 11 2024 Central Daylight Time Applications close: Back to search results Apply now Refer a friend Send me jobs like these We will email you new jobs that match this search.
