At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a physician who is responsible for provision of educational lectures, laboratories, and other educational modalities, consistent with the Anesthesiology scope of practice, within the University to support the educational priorities of the Specialty Medicine Department and Des Moines University. In addition to the duties assigned by the University, this physician is expected to maintain a clinical practice outside of the University Clinic System. This is a part-time (0.3 FTE) academic Anesthesiology position with the focus entirely on the education of students. There are no assigned clinical responsibilities with this position.

What you’ll do:

  •  Participate in the planning, implementation, and assessment of learning for educational opportunities provided by Des Moines University for all four years of osteopathic education, and, as able, for the other health sciences colleges. These opportunities include, but are not limited to, classroom lectures, small group learning, and clinical clerkship experiences; Teaching in the simulation lab and the Standardized Patient Assessment Lab will be focused on small group teaching and providing direct face-to-face feedback to students.
  • Participate in the continuous process of curricular innovation and revision, seeking methods to better integrate clinical learning throughout all the years of the curriculum. Perform related duties such as advising students on academic requirements and continued postgraduate education. Advise student organizations and participate in community outreach programs and functions as able.
  • Provide service to the department, the College, and DMU by participating in activities that support students’ professional development, students’ introduction to the profession of medicine, and an interprofessional approach to patient care.

 

What we’re looking for:

  • D.O. degree from a COCA accredited college of osteopathic medicine or M.D. degree from LCME accredited school of allopathic medicine.
  • Current board certification in Anesthesiology or appropriate sub-specialty boards.
  • Prior academic experience in a medical school setting or residency training program highly desirable.
  • Four or more years of experience in a practice required.
  • Possess a license to practice in the State of Iowa, or be eligible to gain a license to practice in the State of Iowa.
