Assistant Professor OBGYN (.25 FTE)

At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a part-time faculty member to fill an academic role in Obstetrics/Gynecology (0.25 FTE, average 10 hours a week). The focus is entirely on the education of students.  There are no assigned clinical responsibilities with this position.

What you’ll do:

  • Teach OB-Gyn/Women’s health related subjects within the prescribed curriculum and participate in the educational offering of the department to include relevant organ systems, physical diagnosis, standardized patient encounters, ultrasound lab, and surgical and medical simulation.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures to students both in and outside of the formal classroom setting.
  • Collaborate within the department to administer the OB/Gyn clerkship and provide didactic sessions to clerkship students.
  • Prepare and oversee the skills and syllabus as it pertains to OB/Gyn for simulated medical encounters.
  • Evaluate preclinical students' clinical skills.
  • Act as an academic advisor to osteopathic medical students.  Provide guidance to students interested in OB/Gyn careers and support applicable student organizations.
  • Participate in the interview process for prospective DO students.
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • D.O. degree from a COCA accredited college of osteopathic medicine or M.D. degree from LCME accredited school of allopathic medicine.
  • Current board certification in Ob/Gyn or appropriate sub-specialty boards.
  • Prior academic experience in a medical school setting or residency training program highly desirable.
  • Four years of experience in the practice of OB/Gyn preferred.
  • Faculty member is expected to maintain an active clinical practice.
  • Possess license to practice in the State of Iowa, or be eligible to gain license to practice in the State of Iowa.
