We are seeking a Content and Marketing Specialist—a writer-first role for a creative, strategic storyteller who can craft clear, compelling content that brings DMU’s mission to life. From web and email to social media and long-form storytelling, this role is central to building brand awareness, engaging diverse audiences, and advancing the university’s strategic goals through impactful, purpose-driven communication.
What you’ll do:
- Support the development and execution of a comprehensive content strategy across earned, owned and paid media that advances the university’s goals.
- Write, edit and proof high-quality content for DMU’s targeted audiences across multiple channels, including websites, social media, email, donor narratives, news media, print materials, advertising campaigns, videos and multimedia presentations.
- Collaborate with faculty, clinicians and other subject-matter experts to produce accurate and engaging content related to medicine and health sciences education, research, alumni and community engagement, philanthropy and the Des Moines University Clinic.
- Serve as the primary communications liaison for designated programs and departments, ensuring their unique stories are told effectively. Areas may include admissions, student affairs, university advancement, research and the clinic.
- Partner with marketing team members to manage the content calendar and production workflow to guarantee the timely delivery of high-quality, on-brand materials.
- Analyze content performance using data insights to refine messaging, improve effectiveness and increase audience engagement.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in content writing, editing, marketing or similar roles. Experience in higher education, health care or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
- This role will transition to a hybrid model after three months, requiring on-campus presence three times per week.

Salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000, depending on experience.
