The Assistant to the Department Chairperson in the English Department provides academic support and related services to undergraduate students, facilitating student success and retention through academic advisement, academic instruction, academic mentoring, orientation activities, and other activities. The position assists students with plans of study, maintains student records, and advises students on progress towards degree; coordinates departmental recruitment initiatives and works with the University on recruitment initiatives, including Preview, open houses, and orientation activities; provides project support for program directors; coordinates prospective student visits, including class visits, department tours, and pre-admission advising; coordinates admissions into and manages enrollment of the undergraduate major, its sequences, and minors; and assists program directors with managing enrollment in all courses offered by the English Department. This position manages the technical operations of the Bone Student Center (BSC), including the oversight of performances and event technical needs, maintaining a training program for student stage hands, and supervision of IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists & Allied Crafts) personnel.
