Become a Teacher  

The Change2Teaching (C2T) Program offers a unique, supported pathway for degree-qualified professionals to transition into a teaching career while working in a Tasmanian school.   

Delivered in partnership with the University of Tasmania, this two-year, employment-based Master of Teaching pathway allows you to earn while you learn, combining on-the-job experience with formal study.   

You will be part of a collaborative school environment in regional, rural and hard-to-staff communities, helping to improve outcomes for children and young people across Tasmania.   

What you’ll do  

Year 1 Initial Teacher  

  • Support classroom teaching and student learning  

  • Deliver small-group and one on one support  

  • Gain skills in planning, teaching and assessment  

  • Support literacy and numeracy development  

Year 2 Initial Teacher  

  • Take on increased responsibility for teaching duties  

  • Plan, deliver and assess learning programs  

  • Work under the guidance of an experience mentor teacher  

You will undertake on-site study alongside employment, progressing from a support role to a classroom teacher across the program.

Essential Requirements  

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor degree in a non-education discipline at an approved tertiary education institution.  

  • Prior to commencing employment, participants will additionally be required to:  

    • Enrol and be accepted into the Master of Teaching program at University of Tasmania; and  

    • Hold a current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)  

Please note: The cost associated with obtaining a RWVP is the responsibility of the individual. 

Salary and Award  

Salary Range Year 1:  $85,000.00 (per annum, pro rata) + superannuation  

  • Term 1 and 2 2027 – 0.4 FTE / 28 hrs per fortnight   

  • Term 3 and 4 2027 – 0.6 FTE / 42 hrs per fortnight  

Salary Range Year 2:  $90,000.00 (per annum, pro rata) + superannuation  

  • Term 1 and 2 2028 – 0.6 FTE / 42 hrs per fortnight   

  • Term 3 and 4 2028 – 0.8 FTE / 56 hrs per fortnight  

Award/ Agreement: ​Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector)​  

Classification: Change2Teaching Initial Teacher Year 1 and Year 2  

Please note: study commitments are in addition to the above employment hours.
