Job Duties:
  • Prepare or assist with the preparation of operating and ancillary budgets for the home
  • Coordinate all accounts receivable functions for the home to ensure timely and accurate billing/collection of Veteran/Member accounts according to facility policies and procedures
  • Oversee posting, balancing, and reconciling of records
  • Prepare monthly reports
  • Keeps Administrator informed of fiscal status on a regular basis and notifies of financial issues that may impact revenue flow
  • Participate in writing department policies and procedures
  • Sets up and monitors internal control
  • Ensure compliance with accepted accounting principles and standards, Medicare and Medicaid guidelines, third-party payer rules and federal, state and VA rules and regulations
  • Direct the financial aspects of the admissions process, ensuring admissions are financially eligible and able to pay for their care while meeting with Veteran/Member families or responsible parties to discuss billing questions
  • Track status of ALTCS applications and assist with research for recertification
  • Oversee resident trust fund (Personal Incidental Account) to ensure its integrity and maintains surety bond in excess of Personal Incident Account balance
  • Supervise subordinate staff to ensure goals and objectives of work unit are met
  • Provide training and support to include 1:1 coaching and evaluations
  • Attend and facilitate a variety of meetings such as the monthly Accounts Receivable Meeting and staff meetings
  • Participate in contract provider reviews, providing input and recommendations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Principles, concepts. practices, methods and techniques of government accounting, internal control structures, and fiscal management
  • Procedures for billing insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, private pay
  • Accounting principles related to accounts receivable
  • Budget process
  • State and federal regulations governing skilled nursing facilities
  • Medical and legal terminology
  • State's automated accounting system (AFIS)

Skill in:

  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill in analysis, interpretation and communication of financial data
  • Problem solving skills
  • Developing policies and procedures
  • Skill in applying accounting techniques to computerized accounting records

Ability to:

  • Establish and monitor internal controls
  • Learn and effectively implement AMS and continuous improvement concepts and practices
  • Establish effective interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Ability to obtain and retain a valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
