Summary of Position: Serve the campus community in the capacity determined by the Grounds Keeper Bed Care Lead. Responsibilities could include:
Understanding of planting techniques and procedures specific to IWU
Knowledge of plant types and environments
Knowledge of greenhouse operations (transplanting, pruning, watering, and fertilizing)
Ability to work independently and ability to access and prioritize work needs
Ability to manage multiple students/workers related to a singular task or multiple tasks at one time
Willingness to take on assigned tasks set forth by leadership
Plow and remove snow
Adhere to any safety regulations and standards spelled out in the IWU safety
policy and or dictated by trainings
Comply with any processes and procedures established by Facilities management and or Indiana Wesleyan University administration
Duties and Responsibilities
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions…Hot and Cold
Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting heavy objects up to 75lb
Attentive to detail, a self-starter, and ability to work without close supervision
Excellent communication skills; discerning and tactful
Ability to utilize basic grounds equipment (mowers, hand tools, bobcat, backhoe, skid steerer)
Willingness to serve in any capacity determined by any member of the Grounds Department leadership team
Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions
Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the general public
May be required to work overtime as directed by supervision
Maintain landscape beds (weeding, mulching, perennial, and annual plant care)
Tree trimming and removal; cleaning curbs and parking lots; leaf pick-up and removal; and overall detail oriented
Supervise student workers assigned to area
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
Experience
Two (2) years of relative experience in a grounds/maintenance related field
Required Skills
Ability to operate such equipment as hand and power mowers, front-end loaders, tractors, spraying equipment, and hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner
Considerable knowledge of standard hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance activities
Considerable knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and equipment related to grounds maintenance
Must have a valid driver's license
