Summary of Position:    The Dean will be a dynamic and respected leader with a demonstrated record of achievement in both business and higher education. The successful candidate will possess the ability to cast and communicate a compelling vision, build meaningful partnerships across industry and academia, inspire and galvanize others toward shared goals, and lead with both confidence and humility. The Dean will cultivate innovation, foster collaboration, and strengthen the School's reputation among students, faculty, alumni, employers, and community stakeholders. The Dean will provide strategic direction to the School's leadership team while coordinating efforts with leaders across the University to advance Indiana Wesleyan University's mission and strategic priorities

The DeVoe School of Business, Technology and Leadership (DBTL) serves approximately 5000 students and is housed in the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS), serving over 11,000 students. DeVoe is a key academic partner to the university’s International Student Program (ISP). The College has a long, vibrant history of providing adult learners with associate, bachelor’s, and graduate degrees. The successful candidate will need to deeply embrace and articulate a philosophy that is consistent with adult education and innovation.

The Dean will have a demonstrated ability to inspire, unite, galvanize, and mobilize diverse stakeholders around a shared vision while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and Christian service.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and lead the School in the development of innovative, future-oriented models of higher education in partnership with business organizations
  • Work with business and civic leaders across the region to align academic program development with economic growth Demonstrate a mature personal faith in Jesus Christ and willingly embraces the theological and lifestyle commitments of The Wesleyan Church
  • Provide oversight to ensure that programs are conducted in accordance with the academic policies of the university and institutional and program accrediting bodies
  • Provide oversight to ensure that curricula development, and instruction draw upon the latest pedagogical research, technological advances and forward-thinking principles; and program assessment is conducted with academic integrity, rigor, and agility
  • Serve as the School representative on various committees, councils, and staff development meetings as assigned
  • Oversee development and management of the School budget with a focus on achieving revenue goals and effectively managing expenditures
  • Serve on the College of Adult and Professional Studies Academic Team and collaborate with all other Colleges, Schools, and operational departments to advance IWU
  • Interview and recommend to the National & Global Chancellor and University President approval/denial of DeVoe’s faculty applicants and ensures University and CAPS policies are followed in the hiring of all personnel in the school
  • Maintain intellectual vitality for the purpose of advancing Indiana Wesleyan University
  • Exhibit a culturally responsive and sensitive demeanor in working in an academic community that is diverse.
  • Grow and strengthen the DeVoe School of Business, Technology, and Leadership’s Board of Advisors
  • Manage full-time faculty including annual performance review process
  • Collaborate with area and regional businesses to develop a network of opportunities for IWU including grant opportunities and other outside funding
  • Represent the university at community, Chamber, industry, and donor events as requested. Achieve all other duties as assigned

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

Doctorate in a Business, Leadership or related field. A terminal degree in another field with graduate course work in the discipline/profession represented in the business, technology or leadership is required.

Experience

Consistent with IWU’s intentional development of a culturally diverse community, track record of demonstrating a culturally responsive and sensitive demeanor in working in an academic community that is diverse.

Demonstrated innovative and entrepreneurial mindset.

College level teaching (preferably online and onsite), particularly with adult learners.

Curriculum development experience in working with faculty and other collaborators.

Demonstrated ability to network with business professionals and represent the University in major venues.

Experience engaging with external stakeholders for the purpose of partnership development.

Excellent team-building and leadership skills demonstrated in a leadership role in a complex organization.

Administration in an accredited program, Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), is preferred.

Required Skills
