The School of Information Technology (IT) is one of seven schools at Monash University Malaysia. The School is under the purview of the Faculty of Information Technology, one of the most prestigious IT faculties in the world. By integrating its computing and information technology disciplines, the School provides enormous breadth and depth of teaching and research to the campuses, strategic alliances, centres, and partnerships that form the Monash global network.

The School of IT is committed to developing courses relevant to living and working and is poised to meet an increased demand for top-notch IT graduates in the next few years. The School of IT allows students to pursue their interests while acquiring the knowledge and skills employers are looking for; in parallel, they enhance their learning initiative by applying knowledge in exciting, immersive, and innovative ways.

Currently, the School offers the Bachelor of Computer Science (BCompSci) course with specialisations in the Advanced Computer Science or Data Science and a 1-year Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)  course. The School also offers the Master of Artificial Intelligence, Master of Business & Information Systems, and the Master of Data Science courses. In addition, the School of IT offers a 4-year Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) in collaboration with the School of Engineering. The School also has a dynamic research environment, with research programs available for undergraduate and postgraduate students, including MPhil and Ph.D. studies.

The Opportunity

A level C (or higher) academic is expected to make a significant contribution to all activities of the organisational unit or interdisciplinary area and play a major role within their profession or discipline. Academics at this level may be appointed in recognition of distinction in their disciplinary area.

Reporting Line: The position reports to the Associate Head of School.

Supervisory Responsibilities: As assigned

Key Responsibilities

A level C academic is expected to:

  1. Contribute to curriculum development, innovation, enhancement, and quality assurance in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Software Engineering units.

  2. Develop and deliver innovative and excellent teaching, learning, and assessment experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate Software Engineering students.

  3. Conduct high-quality research, maintaining an active record of publication and building a profile of grants and Ph.D. student supervision.

  4. Support the development and implementation of a research strategy consistent with the research priorities of Monash University Malaysia and Monash University Australia.

  5. Participate in collaborations with other universities and with government, industry, and/or civil society to drive research impact and educational excellence.

Key Selection Criteria

    1. Ph.D. (Level 8, MQF), Master’s degree (Level 7, MQF), and Bachelor’s degree (Level 6, MQF) in Computing field or equivalent, and three (3) years of academic experience.

    2. Ability to plan, lead, and manage change processes and resources in tertiary education.

    3. A strong record of teaching and curriculum development which demonstrates a commitment to educational innovation.

    4. A good research record, with a strong trajectory in publications, grants, and Ph.D./Masters/Honours supervision.

    5. Experience collaborating with partners in universities, government, and/or civil society.

    6. Experience in leading, managing, and coordinating a broad range of academic functions aligned with strategic objectives.

    7. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated capacity to effectively work cooperatively with partners in universities, government and/or civil society.

    8. Eligible to register with the MBOT as a Professional Technologist.
