As a disability and access specialist, you will liaise with students, faculty, staff, and relevant stakeholders to facilitate appropriate accommodations and foster an inclusive educational environment. You will determine academic adjustments and reasonable accommodation needs for students in adherence to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines. Your responsibilities will include the management of an active caseload of students with documented disabilities, participation in campus-wide efforts to improve access for students with mobility support needs, and the documentation of student interactions in a timely and accurate manner.

In this role, you will provide students with referrals based on their needs and maintain a current schedule. You will inform your supervisor of staff development needs to improve department performance, assist with administrative tasks assigned by the director of counseling and student support services, and maintain the disability services database as assigned. As a specialist, you will serve as a resource to the university regarding adaptive computer technology and other relevant areas. You will also ensure accurate and up-to-date information, attend weekly case conferences, and participate in quarterly student orientations.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive campus environment. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can work well in effective collaborations with diverse stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, counselor education, special education or other related fields
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive university environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse stakeholders 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in a higher educational setting
  • At least two years of counseling and/or accommodation experience

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
