Through the SCAD School of Foundation Studies, each SCAD undergraduate student develops a comprehensive visual, conceptual, and creative language essential for success via a rigorous studio experience. From these courses, students advance to professionally tailored courses that move in the direction of their professional aspirations. As a part-time professor of foundation studies, you will assist undergraduate students in developing a comprehensive visual, conceptual, and creative language essential for success, helping illustrate the connection between research, drawing, design process, and environmental and cultural influences.
Each required foundation studies class is aligned with the school’s goals, preparing students to utilize visual language, develop innovative solutions, and respond to art and design as they build the skills and knowledge necessary to fulfill their artistic potential. In support of this mission, you will fulfill teaching assignments as outlined by the contact hours in the Employment Agreement, which include syllabus design, submission, and approval; midterm grade reviews; and availability for office hours, extra help sessions, learning opportunities, and field trips. You will plan and prepare courses, conduct program assessments, and meet grading and documentation requirements. Additionally, you will record attendance for each class in accordance with academic policies and regulations.
In addition to the expansive foundation studies curriculum, SCAD offers a remarkable array of support and learning services to guide new students as they find their creative voice. In this position, you will assist these efforts as well as academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts by contributing to the university’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. You will attend on-ground and virtual activities such as admission events, faculty councils, exhibitions, and more. You may also participate in curriculum assessment and development meetings, accreditation support, institutional effectiveness meetings, or other publicity assignments.
