As a jewelry studio technician, you will mentor students outside of class time and regular business hours. Responsibilities include daily task development with the shop/studio manager, overseeing shop functionality, and providing hands-on support to students with fabrication and file issues. You will manage equipment maintenance schedules, inventory all materials, and monitor the studio and tool room during open shop hours. Additional responsibilities include checking tools in and out according to SCAD policies and performing machine setup and light maintenance.

You will maintain an updated user database, assist professors during class sessions — which may include demonstrating proper equipment use — and provide minor first aid if necessary. In this role, you will inform the shop manager about maintenance, supply, and safety issues while upholding a safe workspace by enforcing all OSHA, EPA, and SCAD safety policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate demonstrates basic computer skills and a comprehensive understanding of jewelry shop tools and techniques, including lost wax casting, acetylene torches, fabrication techniques, soldering, and stone setting. The candidate must be able to maintain an organized and clean work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least three years of professional experience as a bench jeweler or technician
  • Proficient in Rhino, Matrix, ZBrush, as well as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or similar software

Preferred Qualifications:      

  • Specialization in 3D printing and lost wax casting processes

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Valid driver’s license

Travel Required:  

  •   Less than 10% 

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
