As a barn manager, you will organize and oversee the care of all horses, including feeding and watering, turnout, shoeing, grooming, and medication distribution. You will train and supervise all grooms, stable hands, and other employees caring for the horses. Responsibilities include schedule management for walker rotations, conducting regular health check-ins for the horses, and general farm duties such as cleaning the barn, checking fences, and operating equipment. You will also complete grooming tasks (e.g., picking feet, pulling mane, and body clipping), treat minor injuries, and apply bandages.

The barn manager is required to live on-site and participate in a work schedule that ensures 24/7 coverage, including weekends.  

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • Proven ability and experience with a sound understanding of equine care

Preferred Qualifications:      

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline
  • Pre-vet or vet technician experience
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Experience driving with a horse trailer 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Valid driver's license

Travel Required:  

  •   Less than 10–20% 

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
