Work type: Faculty Full Time
Location: Atlanta
Categories: Film and Television

As an associate chair of film and television, you will join an impressive array of faculty who have received Primetime Emmy Awards, Peabody Awards, and Academy Award nominations, among other distinctions and honors. Each day, you will lead a team in fulfilling the mission, vision, and values of the university and consult with the department leaders on the strategic plan of the program to improve its reputation. In doing so, you will foster a positively oriented university environment through mutual respect, collegiality, and collaboration. Likewise, you will encourage a shared commitment among department faculty and will work to build a cohesive department team through frequent, effective communication of shared goals and duties. Responsibilities include participation in faculty recruitment trips and the entire hiring process, submission of anticipated headcount needs, and decision-making on student matters.

In this role, you will support academic excellence through quality instruction and instructional engagement, as evidenced by student achievements and work outcomes. Among other duties, you will ensure that faculty follow university policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. In collaboration with academic services, you will oversee academic scheduling and coordinate the use of department resources. This includes the use of SCAD Film Studios Atlanta, an expansive 60,000-square-foot complex in Midtown Atlanta. You will annually evaluate faculty, which includes classroom observations and the review of student reviews, and provide a written summary of recommendations as part of your managerial duties.

In this position, you will ensure that faculty constantly review the curriculum for quality and currency — utilizing 4K cameras, AVID editing stations, color correction software, and more — and adhere to educational outcome statements, assessments, and accreditations. You will coordinate curriculum development efforts with department leaders and manage the collection of student work for assessment and accreditation, showcasing the program's outcomes. Similarly, you will ensure outstanding student work is displayed throughout the year, especially during SCAD Days and high-profile events like SCAD TVfest, where working professionals from all spheres of content production gather for screenings, premieres, panel discussions, and workshops exploring the latest trends and the best content airing today.

When partnering with the institutional recognition office, you will submit student work to competitions and awards. Additionally, you will partner with the office for career and alumni success to find career and internship opportunities. You will also work with the admission department to recruit new graduate and undergraduate students. You will regularly prepare required ad hoc reports, monitor key departmental data, and oversee purchase and travel reports with the budget in mind. Responsibilities include acting as a department ambassador as needed, forging partnerships with professional and academic organizations, and anticipating trends to recommend implementations. Among other duties, you will resolve faculty and staff issues as they arise and teach classes as assigned by academic services and human resources.
