Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Assistant/Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health and Well-Being directs the administration of a Division I sports medicine program for all 18 Sports in adherence to all university, Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, and NATA regulations while promoting the mission and goals of the Department and the University. Minimum experience will be 5 years. Associate title will depend on years of experience. Duties include, but are not limited to, preventative treatment, rehabilitation of injuries, NCAA and institutional drug testing, insurance coordination, and travel with athletic teams. Works closely with varsity teams and team physicians. Coordinates examinations and follow-up care with physicians.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree is required.

Experience: Five years or more of experience in collegiate athletic training.

Licensure & Certifications: State and national certification required.

Job Duties:

  • 35% - Recognizes and evaluates athletic injuries and illnesses while maintaining pertinent files. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Conducts detailed physical examinations to determine student-athlete physical readiness and need for preventative measures due to pre-disposing factors to injury as well as educates athletes on healthy habits. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Supervises all programs by providing leadership, setting appropriate goals, providing feedback, documenting work performance, and conducting annual performance evaluations. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Coordinates processes involving student-athlete rehabilitation including overseeing on-going evaluations, developing rehabilitation protocols in cooperation with attending physicians, and insurance management. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Maintain working knowledge of NCAA rules and best practices, NATA Code of Ethics, NATA BOC regulations related to substance abuse and remain I compliance with all laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Supports the department by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. - ()
  • 10% - Oversees the operations of two athletic training rooms serving over 400 student-athletes. - (Essential)
