Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Associate Dean of Research Administration, under the direction of the Dean of Graduate Education and Research Administration, has principal responsibility for leading activities to include all pre-award management, non-financial post-award administration, and grant and research compliance. Through the promotion of collaboration, transparency, innovation, and knowledge, the Associate Dean will foster a robust research environment to support all academic and administrative divisions within the University.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Doctoral Degree or Terminal Degree in Candidate’s Field

Experience: • Tenured faculty member at EKU
• Evidence of a strong research background required. Preference given to those who have served as a Principal Investigator on externally funded awards
• Experience in proposal development and grant and contract management is required
• Preference will be given to those with previous university administrative, management, and/or leadership experience. This experience could include but is not limited to traditional university leadership roles, leaders of university initiatives/committees, experience in grant management and related functions, and other experiences enabling the ability to lead a team of high-performing staff and perform essential job functions.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills as well as experience mentoring faculty is required

Job Duties:

  • 40% - Provides leadership and organizational expertise to unit staff in the development and coordination of administrative activities (to include the identification of funding opportunities; proposal development support and review; negotiation and processing of sponsored project award documents; and management, compliance, and closeout of sponsored project awards) that support the University’s pursuit of externally funded research awards and leads the unit’s strategic planning, budgeting, professional development, and outreach efforts. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Develops and manages strategic initiatives aimed at increasing sponsored research, to include professional learning opportunities for faculty, the award of internally-funded research awards, and other research development support - (Essential)
  • 20% - Cultivates faculty engagement and support through responsive communication, knowledgeable guidance, and the development of a culture of research excellence through collaboration; effectively represents the university research ecosystem to audiences of internal and external stakeholders - (Essential)
  • 10% - Oversees the University’s research compliance programs, including the development, management, and presentation of workshops and seminars - (Essential)
  • 5% - Chairs the EKU Research Advisory Council and serves as a mentor to the faculty fellowship positions - (Essential)
