Job Summary/Basic Functions

Student Life & First-Year Experience (SL&FYE), which is located within the Division of Student Success, Engagement, and Opportunity, provides graduate students with an assistantship appointment that encompasses professional service, programming, outreach, and leadership in the field of Student Affairs. The Graduate Assistantship provides opportunities for in-depth learning of event planning, programming, and student leadership/organization advising. The GA will have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety Student Life and involvement areas including First-Year Experience, Student Activities, Parent & Family Programs, Colonel’s Cupboard, student organizations, service learning, community engagement, and student leadership programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Unconditional acceptance into a graduate degree program at Eastern Kentucky University
• Enroll in at least nine (9) credit hours per semester in a graduate degree program
• Maintain a 3.0 GPA in coursework leading toward the completion of graduate degree
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Possess excellent computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Skills in multi-tasking and the availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
• Possess excellent administrative skills

Job Duties:

  • 50% - The GA will function as a planner and programmer while communicating and collaborating with internal units on campus, external constituents, and members of the EKU undergraduate student community. Provide effective and efficient management, assessment and facilitation of programs and events at Eastern Kentucky University. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Coordinates and assists with large-scale department and University events, supervises students and volunteers, and works collaboratively with campus planning groups. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Coordinates and implements engagement opportunities for students using the department's activities model approach. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. - (Essential)
