Job Summary/Basic Functions

An EKU Athletic Academic Advisor provides comprehensive academic support to student athletes in making progress toward a degree through advising, mentoring, tutoring and other supportive efforts. In addition, this position is responsible for the oversight of the tutoring program including hiring, training and monitoring the Bratzke Tutor program according to established standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree Required in the areas related to Student Personnel, Counseling or Higher Education administration or related field.

Experience: At least one year of related experience would be required for new staff to become fully competent in the skills of the job.

Knowledge of NCAA academic rules and regulations regarding eligibility.

Flexible schedule including evening and weekend work as needed

Knowledge of General Advising Practices.
Detail Oriented and ability to work with Diverse Student Populations.
Knowledge of Degreeworks, Banner, SLATE

Job Duties:

  • 40% - Administers and monitors a comprehensive academic support program for assigned teams and student-athletes. Provides academic advising and mentoring to student-athletes. This can include assisting in choice of academic majors in matters related to goal setting, curriculum choice and related areas. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Provides oversight of the tutoring program for student athletes; Selects, hires and trains tutors according to established standards. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Schedules all requested tutoring sessions for each semester; Assigns tutors to student athletes as required and according to identified needs; identifies campus resources for student referrals as needed. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist the Athletic Compliance Office and EKU Registrar with monitoring student-athlete academic progress, transcript evaluations, certification process and NCAA Eligibility monitoring. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned. Analyzing and summarizing student athletes' data for academic reports, scholarships and academic awards and more. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Communicate frequently with campus partners, faculty, staff, administration and Coaches related to assigned student-athletes. - (Essential)
