Job Summary/Basic Functions
A Staff Interpreter facilitates communication between persons who are deaf/hard of hearing and all aspects of the public and private sector, which may include, but are not limited to, academic, business, and other entities as needed and appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree is required.
Experience: Three years of directly related experience is required.
Licensure & Certifications: License/Certification •National Interpreting Certification is required and must be a member in good standing •Full Interpreting License is required and must be maintained •Additional certifications in various areas of expertise are preferred

Job Duties:
- 90% - Provides Direct Interpreting Services Facilitates communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals and University and Personal contacts related to the individuals in both the public and the private sectors. Requires a high level of critical thinking and bi-lingual linguistic competency. - (Essential)
- 10% - Completes all other duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of the Department. •Maintains skills and knowledge through continuing education opportunities •Maintains good working relationships with all parties, contacts within and outside the University •Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. •Completes special duties or projects as assigned. - (Essential)

Special Instructions: Interpreters are required to demonstrate expert knowledge in providing interpreting services for deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals.
Incumbent performs a range of straightforward to complex tasks. Some variation in the work pattern. Minor planning of content and/or limited choice of work method within general guidelines established by the supervisor. Consequences of error would cause minor to significant inconvenience or embarrassment and would be limited to the work section. Most errors could be corrected within one day to one week.
The incumbent regularly deals with a range of more complex inquiries and requests for information. Contacts may include faculty, staff and students and external agencies. The incumbent occasionally initiates inquiries or requests for information with other entities arising from
his/her own work.
