The Division for Aging Services within the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, in collaboration with community partners, provides, and advocates for resources and services to improve the employment, quality of life, security and independence of older Virginians, Virginians with disabilities, and their families.
The Division for Aging Services receives substantial funding from the Commonwealth to augment federal programs and to offer additional programs to people with disabilities and older Virginians. We are seeking a Director of Programs.
The purpose of this position:
- Supervises the activities of Program Coordinators and Fiscal Staff within the Division for Aging Services in management of Older Americans Act initiatives, resources, and programs.
- Assures that effective oversight, technical assistance, and monitoring are provided for Virginia's 25 Area Agencies on Aging and other contractors.
- Coordinates existing grants and facilitates new grant opportunities.
- Provides subject matter expertise to the department on critical policies and programs in the aging services system.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience must demonstrate:
- Experience and/or training in business management, gerontology, health care, human services, or public administration field or an equivalent combination of experience, and training.
- Extensive experience in staff supervision, leadership, and performance evaluation.
- Extensive experience with long-term care/aging and vulnerable adults and experience managing programs, including planning, and directing the work of staff.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and policies, including, but not limited to, the Older Americans Act.
- Working knowledge of, and ability to communicate information about, aging services and long-term care services and supports, including interdependencies, funding, and role.
- Knowledge of and able to successfully work with the aging network and its services delivery systems, including area agencies on aging, health care systems, other state and local government agencies, human service organizations, for profit organizations and private not-for-profit agencies.
Data Owner:
- Description: Serve as the Data Owner for PeerPlace OAS Application.
- Measure: Performs duties outlined in Data Owner Responsibilities Letterhead.
- Works with PeerPlace OAS System Owner and DARS Information Security Officer to comply with agency security standard
Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by supervisor.
