Job Summary

This is a full-time, faculty term appointment within Emergency Medical Technology department. The individual shall be knowledgeable in all aspects of pre-hospital care, capable of applying techniques and modalities of adult education, and of managing resources and resource personnel. The individual shall act as a liaison between faculty, students, the local medical community, and the Office of Emergency Medical Services.

The individual is also responsible for the delivery of didactic material, demonstration of the psychomotor skills, verification of skill proficiency, and continued faculty development to meet the needs of the institution. The Instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom/lab instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned teaching duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned.

At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and delivers information on various topics in Emergency Medical Services program courses.
  • Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students' class work, assignments, tests, and papers; and keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
  • Maintains office hours for students seeking advice on class work, assignments, papers, and others.
  • Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Maintains current license/certification in profession.
  • Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as required.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional development conferences.
  • Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree at an accredited institution.
  • Current unencumbered Tennessee Paramedic License with Instructor/Coordinator endorsement
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand
  • General experience using various computer software and applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years practicing in the pre-hospital environment
  • Current instructor credentials in Basic Life Support
  • Current provider credentials in advanced trauma, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support.
  • Minimum of two (2) years EMS education administration or greater than 300 hours of EMS instruction
  • Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and technology
