The Coordinator of Rural Initiatives will actively support innovative curricular designs, programs, industry partnerships, and practices to advance TBR’s mission of student success and workforce development in rural communities across the state. The Coordinator of Rural Initiatives will collaborate with a diverse clientele including system and campus leaders, faculty, staff, business & industry leaders, and state agencies to design and develop innovative and adaptive programs, partnerships, and policies to support TBR colleges and the rural communities they serve. The Coordinator of Rural Initiatives will also be responsible for researching new programs and partnerships, leading strategic sessions to engage colleges in these opportunities, and introducing emerging practices for rural student success at scale.
This position is grant-funded, and funding for the project is available through August 2029. Continued employment is contingent upon work and funding.
This position may have the opportunity to work remotely within the state of Tennessee but with periodic visits to the TBR System Office (Nashville, TN) at the employee’s expense, and potential travel to Tennessee TBR colleges may be necessary. |

This position ensures students receive personalized academic coaching, skill-building support, and resource navigation to regain good academic standing and persist toward graduation. Success Coaches also staff the Success Hubs, where they provide academic guidance and connect students to tutoring, advising, and other wraparound services.
Additionally, Success Coaches collaborate with Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Career Services, and Student Advocacy and Support to assist students in navigating Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals, academic suspension appeals, and grade appeals. Success Coaches also lead intervention workshops focused on study skills, time management, academic self-advocacy, and test-taking strategies. |

This position ensures reentry students receive targeted coaching, academic skill-building support, and resource navigation to successfully reintegrate into their academic journey, regain good academic standing, and persist toward graduation.
Reentry Coaches also collaborate with Workforce Development to connect students on academic suspension with basic skills programs, digital literacy development, and short-term career-specific certifications. Additionally, they work closely with Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Career Services, and Student Advocacy and Support to provide students with essential wraparound services. |
Student Success Navigator

The Student Success Navigator provides intrusive coaching and structured intervention for first-time freshmen with a high school GPA of 2.2 or lower through the Saluqi Scholars Program. This position ensures students receive proactive academic support, skill-building, and resource navigation to enhance persistence, retention, and academic success. The Navigator tracks student engagement, identifies challenges, and facilitates structured outreach and interventions to ensure students remain on track in their first semester.
Additionally, the Navigator works closely with the Saluqi Scholars Peer Mentors to support student engagement and retention efforts. The Navigator collaborates with campus partners, including Admissions, Academic Advising, Career Services, Student Leadership and Engagement, and Financial Aid, to enhance first-semester student programming. The Navigator also works on First Gen Forward Network Leader initiatives to strengthen support for first-generation college students through targeted programming and engagement. |

This position serves as the departmental specialist for case routing, engagement tracking, and intervention follow-up within various platforms, including:
Slate (CRM) – Student case management and early alert tracking.
Brightspace D2L (LMS) – Student engagement monitoring.
Ellucian Banner (ERP/SIS) – Student information system management.
Microsoft Forms and Power BI – Survey data collection and intervention analytics.
The Early Alert Manager collaborates with faculty, staff, and intervention specialists to ensure early alerts lead to meaningful student support. Additionally, the EAM assists the Director with intervention data reporting and analysis, evaluates the effectiveness of outreach efforts, and informs strategic decision-making. |
