POSITION SUMMARY

Chattanooga State Community College is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Nutrition within the Hospitality & Culinary Arts program. The primary responsibility of this position is the instruction of the assigned Nutrition course.

The instructor will provide classroom instruction, prepare and deliver course materials, evaluate student performance, maintain accurate student records, and communicate course expectations and progress to students and appropriate college personnel. The instructor will connect nutrition principles to practical applications within culinary arts, hospitality, and foodservice settings.

The course is scheduled to meet Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., beginning October 12, 2026.

Adjunct Faculty are expected to comply with and support Chattanooga State Community College policies, procedures, academic standards, the College Catalog, the Adjunct Faculty Handbook, and applicable Tennessee Board of Regents requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Teach assigned Nutrition course content in accordance with established course requirements and program expectations.
  • Prepare and deliver effective classroom instruction using appropriate instructional methods and materials.
  • Connect nutrition concepts and principles to practical applications in culinary arts, hospitality, foodservice, and related settings.
  • Remain current in nutrition, culinary arts, hospitality, foodservice, and related areas of professional practice.
  • Provide students with clear course expectations, assignments, assessments, and deadlines.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely and appropriate feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grade, and other required student records.
  • Communicate student progress and course-related information to students and appropriate college personnel.
  • Complete required instructional and college training.
  • Support program and college academic standards and requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Holistic Student Support

  • Maintain a professional and supportive classroom environment that promotes student learning and academic success.
  • Communicate effectively with students regarding course expectations, assignments, academic progress, and available college resources.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources and services when academic or other support needs arise.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with college policies and applicable requirements.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of an Associate degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Nutrition, Food Science, or a closely related field.
  • Professional experience in culinary arts, hospitality, foodservice, nutrition, or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of fundamental nutrition concepts and their application to foodservice and culinary operations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate course content and instructional expectations.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver classroom instruction and evaluate student performance.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student records and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and college personnel.
  • Availability to teach the assigned course during the scheduled class periods beginning October 12, 2026.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous college-level teaching

Pay Range: Per credit hour based on experience and education
