Purpose of Position
Support the business development and finance and contractual operations of Research Institute for Autonomous Systems (RIAS) within the Division of Research and Economic Development.
Duties & Responsibilities
- RIAS Business and Contract Management
- Work directly with UND Research & Sponsored Program Development, UND Grants and Contracts Accounting, UND’s Attorney General’s office representatives, and others as needed, for appropriate legal reviews of all non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), Contracts, Leases, and other legal paperwork.
- Ensure signing of RIAS project contracts.
- Support RIAS by helping ensure adherence with all relevant regulations and guidelines, including those from the sponsoring agency, the state of ND, the NDUS, and UND.
- Support corporate engagement & commercialization activities, as needed.
- Compose and produce correspondence with RIAS team members, customers, and stakeholders while applying discretion regarding information and timing of correspondence relating to RIAS business matters.
- As needed provide support for various editorial duties including writing, reviewing, and editing various materials for publication and use within RIAS.
- Provide support for preparing materials for external presentations at conferences and meetings.
- Assist, as needed, with travel arrangements including airline, state fleet reservations, and hotel rooms.
- RIAS Budget and Financial Oversight
- Create, maintain, and oversee annual and biennium budgets in direct coordination with the RIAS Director and VPRED finance staff.
- Provide monthly and quarterly budget reports, including projected spend rates for local and appropriated funds.
- Maintain records of all income
- Prepare documentation and financial information for legislative inquiries, as requested
- Assist RIAS personnel (including collaborating faculty and staff across campus) in:
- Preparing project budgets,
- Planning, designing/shaping, and implementing projects within fiscal constraints,
- Submitting required documents/information (e.g., for proposals),
- Providing budget projections for projects as needed.
- Provide Position Funding Information
- Verify payroll, ensuring staff are paid correctly and projects are billed correctly.
- Review, with regularity, staffing percent efforts/billability.
- Provide reports, including PI reports, to support reporting requirements of projects.
- Initiate corrective fiscal actions, as needed.
- Support the Division of Research and Economic Development
- Work with the Director of Strategic Finance, Operations & Reporting in the office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (VPRED) to support business and finance manager functions for other parts of VPRED on an as needed basis.
- Special Projects and Duties as Assigned

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, or Bachelor's degree in a non-related field with 5+ years of experience in budget development and management.
- Experience with reading and administering contracts and legal agreements.
- 4+ years’ experience budget development and management.
- Export Control Compliance:
This position requires compliance with U.S. government export control laws and regulations.
