Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated undergraduate student to operate our 3D printers for large-batch design prototyping. The student will be responsible for producing multiple iterations of various 3D models, monitoring print quality, and selecting the best final pieces for further testing or display.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • 3D Printing Operations
    • Operate Creatlity 3D printer located at 314 room in the chemical engineering department.
    • Prepare printer beds and materials according to project requirements.
    • Troubleshoot basic printer issues such as filament jams, calibration errors, or bed adhesion problems. 
  • Quality Control
    • Inspect printed parts for defects, dimensional accuracy, and structural integrity.
    • Record and label each batch of printed samples for documentation purposes.
    • Sort and categorize the printed models, identifying the best quality outputs for further analysis or final use.
  • Documentation & Record-Keeping
    • Maintain detailed logs of printing parameters (temperature, speed, layer height) and outcomes.
    • Document common printing issues and their solutions to streamline future operations.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work closely with a PhD student to refine print settings and improve model designs.
    • Provide regular progress updates and communicate any technical challenges promptly.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Undergraduate Student in Engineering or a related field.
  • Basic Familiarity with 3D Printing processes and materials
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with software such as Cura, PrusaSlicer, or Simplify3D.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
  • Basic understanding of rapid prototyping or manufacturing processes.
