Purpose of Position
The Family Law Clinic Administrative Law Clerk will serve as a front-line intake law clerk for the Family Law Clinic, file court pleadings, maintain client and case files, assist with scheduling client appointments, and general administrative assistance to faculty and for office area.
The Family Law Clinical Practicum accepts divorce, custody, juvenile guardianships, domestic violence protection order, and disorderly conduct restraining order cases.
This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Courteously and efficiently welcome clients, visitors, and vendors upon arrival, creating a positive and professional first impression.
- Answer and route incoming calls.
- Complete intake for potential clients.
- Ensure callers are professionally and efficiently connected to the appropriate faculty member or student.
- Take and relay accurate messages when necessary.
- Electronic and physical filing of court pleadings in district and federal courts.
- Maintain and organize client and case files (physical and digital).
- Receive and sort mail, courier deliveries, and packages.
- Distribute items promptly, with special care for time-sensitive or confidential materials.
- Coordinate outgoing mail and packages as needed.
- Provide general administrative assistance to faculty, including scanning and data entry.
- Assist with scheduling client appointments and coordinating conference room availability.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the reception area, supply room, conference rooms, and other shared spaces.
- Inventory supplies and maintain a list for supply ordering.
- Handle all clinic and client matters with discretion. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in every interaction and communication.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience working in a law office.
- Successful completion of criminal history records check.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to display high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Desire to become familiar with the practice of Family Law.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior enrollment and successful completion of Family Law doctrinal course.
- Prior enrollment and successful completion of Family Law Clinical Practicum I course.
- Experience working as a Paralegal.
