Salary/Position Classification

  • $72,000+, Dependent on Experience, 9 month contract, Exempt
    • Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
    • Opportunities to additionally teach in the Summer may be available.
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite at UND Grand Forks, ND campus

Purpose of Position

The Department of Aviation at the University of North Dakota seeks qualified applicants for a 9-month, non-tenure track, faculty position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. Anticipated start date for this position is August 16, 2026.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
    • Teaching various aviation courses (4/4 course load for Assistant Professors) at the undergraduate level.
    • Teaching various aviation industry and flight courses, safety courses, UAS courses, etc.
    • Advising and mentoring students on academic and career aspirations.
    • Serving on departmental, college and university committees, as assigned.
    • Supervising students conducting scholarly activities. - (Essential)

Required Competencies

  • Ability to teach and develop a broad array of aviation courses at the undergraduate level.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Aviation or related field and minimum of 3 year of professional aviation experience.
  • Advanced FAA pilot certification
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., Ed.D., M.D. or J.D. degree in Aviation related field.
  • Hold a current FAA CFI/CFII certificate
  • Evidence of established record of successful, collegiate-level classroom teaching in aviation.
