Purpose of Position
The TRANSCEND Database Navigator will assist researchers in using large administrative databases. The position will also help support the Professional Development Core in developing their mentorship program and seminar series.
Duties & Responsibilities
Facilitate and support research using the National Clinical Cohort Collaborative (N3C) Enclave, including the COVID, Educational, Cancer, and Renal Tenants
- Participate in N3C training sessions and Investigator Navigators meeting to stay updated on new initiatives.
- Develop and maintain expertise in the N3C Enclave, including its datasets, tools, policies and procedures.
- Publicize N3C resources to investigators through presentations, flyers, and electronic communications.
- Provide consultations to investigators on creating accounts, accessing N3C data, submitting Data Use Requests, and accessing workspaces.
- Assist investigators in starting new projects, joining existing projects, and interpreting N3C data and results.
- Collaborate with N3C data analysts to determine research feasibility and support study design.
- Support investigators in preparing IRB applications, including data access descriptions.
- Facilitate communication between investigators and N3C staff, connecting researchers with appropriate analysts or resources.
Coordinate, track, and oversee N3C research projects
- Provide administrative and coordination support for ongoing N3C research projects.
- Monitor project timelines, milestones, and ensure compliance with N3C policies, data use agreements, and security protocols.
- Assist in manuscript preparation, presentations, and dissemination of research findings.
- Collect and track metrics on investigator engagement, DUR submissions, publications, and other relevant N3C activities.
- Gather feedback from investigators to improve N3C services and user experience.
Assist investigators in accessing and interpreting data from other large administrative databases
- Become familiar with other large administrative databases, including national and state databases as well as databases from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Learn the structure, content, and limitations of datasets from such databases.
- Assist investigators in navigating access protocols, data use agreements, and submission requirements for large administrative databases.
- Develop or provide tutorials, guides, and resources to help investigators independently navigate databases.
- Conduct training sessions for potential investigators to educate them about possible opportunities.
- Identify and resolve issues related to data access.
- Help investigators understand the meaning, context, and limitations of the data.
- Collaborate with data analysts to identify and incorporate additional datasets that may enhance existing research.
Facilitate access to available health data networks and connect investigators to these resources to support their research
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available health data networks, their content, and access requirements.
- Provide consultations with investigators on selecting the appropriate network for their research needs.
- Connect investigators with network contacts, data analysts, or technical experts as needed.
- Promote awareness of health data networks through flyers, training, and newsletters.
- Represent and serve as contact person for TRANSCEND and its database opportunities to all participating universities and clinics (UND, NDSU, Sanford, others).
Serve on the core team of the Research Design, Compliance and Data Management Core of the Translational Science Engaging North Dakota Program (TRANSCEND)
- Provide consultations on potential datasets that could support potential grant awardees’ needs.
- Facilitate secure access to Electronic Health Record (EHR) data for approved research.
- Provide support for investigators utilizing large administrative datasets.
- Ensure compliance with data governance and institutional data-sharing agreements.
- Attend TRANSCEND coordinator and RDCDC meetings and complete tasks as assigned.
- Collaborate with core team members to plan and deliver the annual TRANSCEND symposium highlighting the research of awardees.
Serve on the core team of the Professional Development Core of the Translational Science Engaging North Dakota Program (TRANSCEND)
- Plan and organize monthly committee meetings and assign and complete tasks as necessary.
- Collaborate to coordinate, organize, and implement didactic training series to support investigator skill development in clinical and translational research.
- Design, implement, and develop surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of the didactic training series to ensure ongoing improvement.
- Design, implement, and develop surveys to evaluate a mentoring program for early-stage investigators.
- Collaborate with core team members to assess training needs and evaluate current activities.
- Track participation and feedback for didactic training and mentoring to support continuous improvement.
- Coordinate and organize seminar series featuring presentations promoting clinical and translational research.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or other related field.
- Three or more years related experience working in an academic setting and/or with large administrative databases in an office environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
