- This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.
Purpose of Position
This position provides direct administrative support to the faculty and students in the School of Law’s faculty-supervised experiential learning programs, including the Family Law Clinic and Immigration Law Clinic and other similar curriculum, and the School of Law pro bono program.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Paralegal and administrative support for faculty and law students of the School of Law’s faculty-supervised experiential learning programs.
- Draft a wide range of legal documents and correspondence, including pleadings, summons, complaints, discovery requests, court filings, and mediation materials.
- Manage practice management systems, including file intake, matter entry, client file maintenance, and accurate data and recordkeeping.
- Oversee all case filings in state and federal courts, both electronic and physical, ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
- Monitor litigation deadlines and case activity, sending client notices and anticipating attorney and client needs throughout the litigation process.
- Coordinate client communication and serve as a primary point of contact, handling incoming/outgoing correspondence, calls, intake, scheduling, and general inquiries.
- Prepare for and support mediations and court hearings, including exhibit preparation, witness coordination, on-site assistance, and documentation.
- Maintain organized physical and digital case files, ensuring confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to court and internal requirements.
- Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support, including calendaring, travel coordination, time entry, expense reporting, mail processing, and supply management.
- Support attorneys, faculty, and students through high-level administrative assistance, document preparation, proofreading, formatting, and coordination of meetings and shared spaces.
- Provide administrative support for faculty and law students of the School of Law’s pro bono program.
- Track student qualifications and hours on pro bono work site.
- Outreach to potential pro bono work sites.
- Provide general administrative support backup for other law school departments including the Dean’s Office and Experiential Education program.
Required Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must have the ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships and the demonstrated ability to collaborate with all levels of the law school faculty, staff and student as well as the North Dakota bench and bar by building trust and credibility.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage complex information.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, remain organized, and maintain professionalism.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
- Strong customer service and technology skills.
Minimum Requirements
- Associates Degree or at least 2 years of post-secondary education.
- 2 years professional experience working in a support staff position in a legal setting
- Experience writing business letters and communicating professionally through email.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal certification.
- Experience with North Dakota Odyssey E-Filing System, Clio Manage, Clio Grow, and Time59.
