Purpose of Position
The Accountant performs a broad range of professional accounting duties within a higher‑education and for a variety of campuses within a multi-funding environment. This position supports accurate financial reporting, compliance with GASB standards, university, state, and federal policies. Responsibilities include general ledger maintenance, fund and account reconciliations, analysis, transaction review, and financial reporting across various funding types (e.g., general funds, auxiliaries, grants, designated funds, restricted gifts, capital funds).
This role is designed to be flexible and may be assigned responsibilities across finance or specialized accounting areas, supporting consistent internal controls and effective stewardship of university resources.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile accounts across multiple fund types; prepare/post journal entries with accurate coding
- Support month‑end and year‑end close; reconcile cash, treasury, operating, capital, receivables, and payables
- Monitor fund balances and review transactions for compliance with restrictions and policies
- Support grant, capital project, and fixed asset accounting as assigned; resolve discrepancies using judgment
- Assist with internal and external audits, financial reporting, variance analysis, and budget support
- Use ERP systems for reporting and documentation; escalate issues to the Controller or appropriate personnel
- Respond professionally and timely to customer institutions; perform other accounting duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related degree
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook, and in particular, knowledge of Excel with the ability to generate a summary of the data.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- CPA preferred, not required.
- Experience with PeopleSoft software, Campus Connection
- Educational background or professional experience with governmental/fund accounting.
- Experience working in higher education.
