Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to serve as the head counselor for the INMED Summer Institute program. Lead a staff of 4-8 counselors who are responsible for small groups of students in grades 7-12. Ensure compliance with UND policies and procedures and support programmatic goals including academic enrichment and success, person growth and development, and safety for students and staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Live in UND residence hall for duration of Summer Institute. Room and board are covered by the department.
- Cover the "Dorm monitor" role in residence hall for nights: Actively present and available in residence hall common area 9:00 pm to 2:00 am daily.
- Organize coverage, coordinate schedules, assess and address behavioral issues and delegate or facilitate appropriate action.
- Serve as a leader and a role model for middle and high school aged students, as well as college age counseling staff.
- Supervise student activities in residence hall to ensure compliance with program standards and UND policies. Specifically, minors and staff on campus, housing and dining, use of property & buildings, codes, and office of safety.
- Maintain a positive, family-oriented living environment for all students and staff.
- With Summer Institute Coordinator, address and remediate behavioral, interpersonal, and other conflicts as they arise. May be asked to mediate and help students to resolve conflicts.
- Communicate daily with Coordinator to update and address program activities, goals, and concerns.
- Assist Coordinator with daily operations as needed Accompany students on all field trips and activities.
- Assist in the training of counseling staff
Required Competencies
- Available to be on duty 24 hours per day for the five-week period (June 1-July 11, 2026). Two assigned days off will be given at the discretion of the SI Coordinator.
- Mandatory Staff Orientation Jun 1 - Jun 5, 2026.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Graduate
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with caring for young people.
