Salary/Position Classification

  • $60,000 annual
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.

Purpose of Position

To provide comprehensive mental health services to University students, and serves as a consultant regarding mental health matters to faculty, staff, and other members of the University community. This position provides a majority of these services primarily focused on students within aerospace programs.

This is a 12-month Post-Doctoral Psychology opportunity: August 1, 2026 - July 31, 2027.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Direct Counseling Services
    • Provide counseling services to University aerospace students
    • Provide immediate support for students experiencing a crisis. This includes assessing risk, interventions, and ensuring students receive the necessary care and follow-up
    • Facilitate groups as assigned
    • Collaboratively create treatment plans with clients
    • Uphold the ethical and legal obligation that licensure and profession require
    • Engage in appropriate consultations for care
    • Deliver workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote aviation mental health to campus and community partners
    • Provide clinical supervision to more novice counselors in training to ensure quality clinical client care including review of medical documentation, recordings, and fostering clinical skills and growth Other duties as assigned
  • Non-Direct Clinical Service
    • Maintains appropriate medical documentation that meets accreditation standard and professional standards
    • Prepare reports, letters and other paperwork necessary to support counseling activities and comply with professional standards
    • Assist in development workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote mental health to campus and community partners specific to aviation mental health and wellness
    • Assist with advertising/marketing efforts for UCC
    • Attend regular individual and group supervision
    • Review recordings of provision of services including counseling and supervision sessions delivered toward development of clinical skills 
  • Professional activities, development and service
    • Participate in UCC staff meetings to facilitate business operations and ensure high-quality services
    • Engage in activities like regular didactics, self-directed study, research involving aviation mental health concerns and outcomes, attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay updated on the latest in counseling practices and mental health research relevant to UCC mission
    • Working with other campus services, faculty, and external partners to coordinate campus initiatives surrounding aviation mental well-being
    • Dedicate time to ensure counseling practices are inclusive and culturally sensitive, including participate in training and development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Proficiency in evidence-based treatment modalities appropriate to developmental level.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse populations

Minimum Requirements

  • Successful completion of all professional doctoral degree requirements from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or an APA/CPA-accredited program and predoctoral internship meeting APPIC standards.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a university counseling center or similar setting
  • Experience in working with safety sensitive personnel (e.g., aviation, public safety, etc.)
  • Experience in administering and interpreting psychological assessments
