Purpose of Position
The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for overseeing the ad-hoc data request process as well as institutional reporting assigned to University Analytics and Planning. The Senior Data Analyst provides direct customer service, interacting regularly with internal and external constituents from a variety of academic and administrative areas to clarify information needs and ensure a positive data-user experience. The Senior Data Analyst will work directly with the Data Analysts to ensure ad-hoc requests and institutional reporting are completed quickly and efficiently.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the ad-hoc data request process for University Analytics & Planning
- Serve as the primary contact for the ad-hoc data request process.
- Determine best methods for completion of requests, including assignment to data analysts or other offices.
- Answer clarifying questions and provide analysis as needed.
- Review completed requests for accuracy and completeness.
- Periodically review ad-hoc request process for improvements based on accepted best practices.
- Oversee and coordinate institutional reporting as assigned to University Analytics & Planning.
- Ensure federal, state, and local reporting is completed in a timely fashion with accuracy.
- Develop, maintain, and refresh reports, including dashboard reports throughout the year.
- Prepare status reports, which may include daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and special project status reporting.
- Assist in survey completion, including data acquisition, cleaning/transformation, and survey completion.
- Assists with university-wide assessment (student learning; development, implementation, and annual reporting of program assessment; accreditation processes and data collection for accreditation needs, and UND’s strategic plan).
- Running reports, problem solving, verifying data and dissemination to appropriate offices.
- Provide consultation and data support for obtaining/maintaining reports for retention, enrollment, and assessment efforts (i.e., extracting data for surveys, assisting with analysis, preparing various tables/graphs).
- Data Governance and Data Integrity
- Assists with training institutional constituents on use of interactive data tools produced by University Analytics & Planning.
- Assist with development and maintenance of data dictionary and documenting standard procedures.
- Assists with the production of various communications/publications on the University Analytics & Planning website.
- Represent University Analytics & Planning on campus-wide working groups and committees as needed.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Data Officer or their designee.
- Perform special projects as assigned by the Chief Data Officer, Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, or President.
- May oversee and evaluate the work of student workers and/or temporary employees or consultants employed to assist with specific research projects.

- Candidate must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with a strong focus on attention to detail in a highly analytical environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Social Sciences, Statistics or related field
- 4+ years of increasingly responsible experience working with data including collaborating with others as well as supervising others.
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience working with academic/education data.
- Demonstrated experience writing queries in SQL,
- Demonstrated experience with building and maintaining dashboard reports in Power BI.
- Experience with data analysis, collaboration, and presentation of data to stakeholders.
- Experience in administration and delegation of large-scale routine and ad-hoc reporting
- Familiarity with educational reporting such as: IPEDS, US News, Princeton and others
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in educational research, data analytics, social sciences, statistics, or related field.
- Five years of responsible research, analysis, and report presentation experience
- 3+ years in higher education, preferably within an institutional research office.
- Experience in completing/assisting with educational reporting: IPEDS, US News, NASPAA.
- Experience with SAS
