General Information:
The University Health Center provides a comprehensive array of health care services and health education programs to JMU students. Included in our health care services are several medical clinics, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, and other programs that provide services for more than 30,000 patient encounters a year. UHC practices evidence-based medicine in a confidential, inclusive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The selected Physician will function as a primary care provider for acute care illness and injury of college age students and provide collaboration/consultative services for physician assistants and nurse practitioners employed by the Health Center. Upon request of the Medical Director, the Physician will lead clinical projects, perform chart reviews for education and quality assurance and lead or serve as a member of committees within the University Health Center or on which the University Health Center is represented. The Physician may occasionally be called upon to perform duties normally assigned to the Medical Director if the Medical Director is not available.
Qualifications:
Required:
- DO or MD
- Residency graduate in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in one of the disciplines above
- Unrestricted DEA registration
- License to practice Medicine and Surgery in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Ability to work well with college-age students in a friendly, student-focused and, at times, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to provide education to students at the time of appointments and occasionally as a guest speaker in health science classes or
- other outreach venues on campus.
- Excellent communication skills with clients, colleagues and other JMU faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the use of an electronic health record system (EHR) and use of the system to maintain documentation of the student's medical information is required. The UHC is a paper-free health care facility.
- Ability to use multiple software programs, primarily Microsoft Office including Outlook email and calendar, and the internet.
