Job Summary
The Crime Victims Liaison reviews all reports of violent crime, contact victims, assist victim in preparing required paperwork, obtain medical bills and any documented expenses incurred by victim as direct result of crime. Ensure bills and expenses are submitted to the proper agency. Complies, maintains, and submits reports generated for the purpose of maintaining a grant.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills
• The Crime Victim Liaison will review all reports of violent crimes and contact the victim, guardian, or designated relative to ensure they are aware of all services and benefits afforded under Article I, Section 30, of the Texas Constitution and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Chapter 56A. • Contacts telephonically, by mail, or in person, all victims, their guardian or designated relative to ensure they are advised of the crime victim’s rights afforded under Article I, Section 30, of the Texas Constitution and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Chapter 56A. • Assists victims, guardian or designated relative in preparing the required paperwork for said services and benefits, to include the Victim’s Impact Statement. • Obtains medical bills and any other documented expenses incurred by the victim as a direct result of the crime. Ensure that bills and expenses are submitted to proper agency. • Complies and maintains reports generated for the purpose of maintaining the grant. • Submits required reports, statistics and any other information related to the management of the grant. • Works with the Grant Project Director who will ensure the implementation of the project and proper tracking and compliance with all grant objectives for the grant term. • Maintains a close working relationship with the Crime Victims Coordinator with the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office. • Coordinates with investigator(s) of the Brownsville Police Department and monitors the progress of the investigations relevant to the crimes. • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Education & Experience
High school graduation or GED plus three years of experience.

Texas Class C driver’s license

Average judgment; must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination, may involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.
