Job Summary

Works under general supervision; this class is responsible for treating impounded animals and performing complex technical work assisting a veterinarian in their medical care. Exercises technical supervision over Animal Care Attendants.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of an extensive body of rules, procedures, or operations; specialized skills that may be technical or non-technical.
• Communicates with the public in a positive manner.
• Performs routine work of sheltering and caring for impounded animals and completes all the necessary paperwork.
• Cleans and disinfects inside and outside of all kennels and is responsible for the general cleaning of the building and premises.
• Performs routine spot cleaning building and premises.
• Feeds and waters all animals daily.
• Inspects animals on a routine basis, gives shots, bathes, dips and cares for animals to include daily walking.
• Assists in euthanasia of animals as necessary.
• Work hours may include weekends, after hours, holidays, special events.
• Performs related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree (no experience), or associate's degree plus two years of experience, or high school graduation or GED plus four years of experience.

Special Certifications & Licenses

Valid Texas Driver’s License. Obtain Animal Euthanasia Technician Certification within 12 months of hiring Veterinary Technician License preferred.

Physical Demands

Mostly moderate and fairly steady active physical exertion; may require brief periods of heavy muscular exertion, such as standing, lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.

Responsibility for Equipment & Property

Responsible for use of equipment/property such as office equipment, supplies, etc., which are used in office.

Working Conditions

Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to disagreeable conditions is brief or otherwise insignificant; space problems; only occasional situations that place the employee in a stressful environment.
